The Design Day Club is an original project-based workshop where kids learn the essential components of graphic design—images, typography, color palettes, and messaging—and how to combine them intentionally. We learn about the role of design in communications, discuss who our audience is, and what we want to communicate. Kids are guided through unique, structured, and hands-on design projects such as packaging, logo design, and infographics, encouraging creativity, and critical and purpose-driven thinking.
We do not use digital media but brainstorm, sketch, and use our own hands to create.
The Design Day Club gathers in the neighborhood of Mount Pleasant in Washington, DC on days when DC Public Schools are closed.
Join us in this unique club! This is a one-of-a-kind creative place!
We are not an arts-and-craft camp, we are a design club
What Kids learn
In small groups, Kids develop skills on group collaboration, problem solving, curiosity, and communications. In our group, there's no idea that's a bad idea as we build on everyone's idea and use our creativity.
Kids explore and apply design principles such as visual hierarchy and negative space; and utilize design elements such as color palettes, typography, and images to create something meaningful.
In every session kids will learn about the power of communicating through design, making connections to the real world, and apply constructive critic through our script "I like... I wish... What if..."
